Öskjuhlíð
Öskjuhlíð is a unique recreational area near downtown Reykjavík, featuring diverse nature and fascinating historical landmarks. This 6.7 km cycling loop, known as Bakgarðshringurinn, starts at Mjölnisheimilið, following trails around the slopes of Öskjuhlíð and leading to Nauthólsvík. The area boasts rich natural diversity, notable geological formations, one of Reykjavík’s densest forests, and unique wartime relics. Öskjuhlíð is a popular outdoor destination due to its proximity to downtown Reykjavík, the university area in Vatnsmýri, and nearby recreational spaces in Nauthólsvík and Fossvogur, as well as densely populated neighborhoods such as Bústaðahverfi and Hlíðar.
