Úlfarsfell from Úlfarsfellsvegur
Úlfarsfell is a pleasant and enjoyable hill on the boundary of Reykjavík and Mosfellsbær, well suited for running year-round and within most people’s ability. This route starts at the parking area by Úlfarsfellsvegur and climbs to Stórihnúkur, the highest part of the hill. The run follows a well-defined path, fairly runnable at the bottom but steeper higher up, with around 250 metres of climb. At the top of Stórihnúkur there are magnificent views in all directions over the greater Reykjavík area, Mt. Esja, Mosfellsdalur and the mountains. The route is a loop of about 4.3 km and the surface is mixed: soil, gravel and rock. The descent is well suited for practising downhill trail running. The hill is popular for outdoor recreation all year and well frequented by runners and hikers. Parking is available at the start.
