Esjuhlíðar

The outdoor recreation areas around Mount Esja are among the most popular and frequently visited in the Greater Reykjavík area. Visitors can either tackle the mountain's steeper hiking routes or enjoy a walk across the lower slopes through diverse and beautiful scenery. A recently developed connecting trail, approximately 1.85 km long, links Esjustofa and the Kollafjarðará river. The route passes through mature woodland and connects to a trail leading through the arboretum at the Mógilsá research station. Bridges cross the streams along the way, although there are a few steeper sections of the trail. Parking is available either at the car park below Þverfellshorn or at the car park by the Kollafjarðará river.
