Kársnes loop from Kópavogslaug
This route is an easy, accessible run around Kársnes, the westernmost part of Kópavogur, surrounded by sea on three sides; Fossvogur to the north and Kópavogur to the south. The route starts at Kópavogslaug and follows Kársnesstígur, a popular paved coastal path running along the entire shoreline of the headland, all the way from Fossvogur to Kópavogur. Midway, between the two inlets, is the small-boat harbour at Kársnes, attractively located and giving character to the surroundings. Along the path there are wide views over Fossvogur and towards Reykjavík, over to Nauthólsvík and Öskjuhlíð, and south over Kópavogur. The settlement on Kársnes is old and established, and the harbour area has changed in recent years with new development. The route is about 6 km with negligible elevation, around 45 metres, and is well suited to shorter training runs or an easy recreational run for all abilities. The surface is paved walking and cycling paths that are easy year-round. As the route runs along the sea it can be windy, but the views are correspondingly rewarding. Parking and swimming facilities are at Kópavogslaug at the start.
