Himnastiginn, Víghóll and Heljarslóð
From Digraneskirkja, the route leads to Himnastiginn, a stairway trail that ascends from Kópavogsdalur up to Digranesheiði. The staircase consists of 207 steps, with an elevation gain of nearly 52 meters and a length of approximately 360 meters. Himnastiginn is especially popular among walkers and runners as it is well-suited for endurance training. At the top of the stairs, the trail continues higher up to Víghóll, a site with panoramic views that was designated a natural monument in 1983. The area features glacially scoured basalt formations known as whalebacks, with striations that reveal the ice flow direction over Kópavogur during the end of the Ice Age. There is a viewing dial and an informational sign about the geological history of the area. The route then proceeds towards Digranes sports hall, descending via a winding path commonly referred to as Heljarslóð. During winter, snow and ice can make the trails slippery, so wearing crampons is advisable.
