Úlfarsfell from the forestry area
Úlfarsfell is one of the most popular outdoor areas in the capital region, with numerous marked paths across the mountain. This loop starts at the Hamrahlíð forestry area on the western slope, where there is ample parking. The Mosfellsbær Forestry Society manages the area, where afforestation began in the early 20th century; the woodland includes birch, sitka spruce and Norway spruce. The route climbs to the highest summit, recognisable by its telecommunication masts, along well-built marked paths. The summit offers wide views over the capital region.Mosfellsbær has laid quality trails with steps on the steepest sections on the way down. The route then descends and winds along a old geothermal pipe back to the forestry area, forming a loop of about 5.7 km with around 274 m of ascent. Mind the weather, as the top can be windy though the woodland is sheltered.
