Nauthólsvík
Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach, inaugurated in 2000, has firmly established itself as a popular outdoor destination, attracting both local and international visitors. Powerful seawalls enclose a beautiful lagoon where cold seawater mixes with geothermal water, creating a unique bathing experience. Inside the barriers, golden shell sand has been added, giving the area a Mediterranean-like ambiance rather than the feel of a cove in the world's northernmost capital. The goal of these developments was to create a diverse recreational area emphasizing outdoor activities, sunbathing, sea bathing, and sailing, reminiscent of past traditions in the region. Nauthólsvík features a service center with changing rooms, showers, a café, and barbecue facilities. In front of the service center, there is a long geothermal pool with a temperature of about 38°C, and along the shoreline, a hot water well helps to warm the lagoon. The geothermal beach also includes a steam bath for visitors to enjoy.
