Elliðaárdalur
Elliðaárdalurinn is one of the largest green spaces in Reykjavík and among the city's most popular outdoor recreational areas. The valley is characterized by diverse landscapes and vegetation, with the Elliðaár River at its heart, flowing from Elliðavatn Lake and splitting into two branches as it runs north and west between the neighborhoods of Breiðholt, Selás, and Ártúnsholt, effectively dividing the city. The river is well-known for salmon fishing, being one of the most popular salmon rivers in southwest Iceland. The area offers excellent walking, cycling, and running paths, and is ideal for picnics in the forest, where Reykjavík's electricity company began afforestation efforts in 1951. The historic Elliðaár Power Station in the valley has been revitalized, with restored buildings now serving visitors with educational activities, events, and an exciting playground.
