Laugardalur
Laugardalur is one of Reykjavík's main outdoor recreation areas, offering sheltered and lush surroundings with well-organized walking and cycling paths throughout the area. It is also the city's central hub for sports activities, housing Laugardalshöll arena, Laugardalsvöllur stadium, Laugardalslaug swimming pool, and Reykjavík's skating rink. The Reykjavík Botanic Garden, located in Laugardalur, serves as an important center for horticulture and public education about plants and the environment, attracting tens of thousands of visitors in the summer. The Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo is a popular attraction for children and families, featuring Icelandic farm animals, native wildlife such as foxes and reindeer, and the ever-popular seals. Although geothermal activity exists in the valley, hot springs are no longer visible on the surface; historically, the springs were used for laundry, and the old washing pools have been preserved as significant historical landmarks with educational signage explaining their history. Additionally, Reykjavík's main campsite is located in Laugardalur, making it a favored stop for travelers.
