Vífilsstaðavatn
Vífilsstaðavatn is a remarkably beautiful location situated beneath Vífilsstaðahlíð, south of Vífilsstaðaspítali. The area is rich in diverse birdlife and vegetation and has been a protected nature reserve since 2007. Excellent facilities have been developed around the lake, including numerous benches, informational signs, and a sheltered area near the parking lot. The walking loop around the lake is a highly popular route for both runners and walkers, attracting many visitors daily. In spring, fly fishers can be seen practicing their casting skills for the upcoming summer season, as the lake is home to Arctic char and occasional brown trout. The area features several walking paths, and near Vífilsstaðir, there is a disc golf course. Vífilsstaðavatn is part of Heiðmörk, which is managed by the Reykjavík Forestry Association, a non-profit organization. More information, maps, and additional trails can be found at heidmork.is.
