Valhúsahæð
Valhúsahæð is the highest point in Seltjarnarnes, standing 31 meters above sea level, and is a popular outdoor recreation area. It offers a beautiful view to the north towards Esja, Skarðsheiði, and Akrafjall, west over Faxaflói Bay, and south towards the Reykjanes Peninsula. The area features walking paths, a playground , as well as soccer and frisbee golf courses. Valhúsahæð was designated a natural monument in 1998. On the hill, glacial striations carved by Ice Age glaciers can be seen on the rock formations. The name Valhúsahæð originates from the fact that it once housed facilities where the Danish king's hunting falcons were kept while awaiting shipment to Copenhagen. Visitors to Valhúsahæð can also explore remnants related to the military occupation and history of World War II in Iceland.
