Varmá and Álafosskvos
Álafosskvos is a charming area worth visiting, featuring houses from various time periods and one of the oldest swimming pool buildings in Iceland by the banks of the Varmá river. Trails run through the area and Álanesskógur, one of Mosfellsbær’s oldest groves. Álafoss is a beautiful waterfall in Varmá, which winds through the area and is listed as a natural monument. Around the beginning of the 20th century, the area became the site of Iceland’s wool industry, utilizing the river's hydropower to drive the textile factory's machinery. The river is lukewarm, and people once swam in the hydropower reservoir, with remnants of old diving boards still visible. The area is a popular destination, but visitors are encouraged to stay on marked paths and trails.
